The basics

What Is a
Dental Bridge?

A dental bridge is a custom-made false tooth (called a pontic) that is permanently placed between two healthy teeth to fill the space left by missing teeth. The bridge is held in place by dental crowns placed over the anchor teeth on each side of the gap.

Unlike dentures, which are removable, a dental bridge is a fixed restoration that stays cemented in your mouth. You care for it just like your natural teeth, with regular brushing and flossing.

Missing teeth can cause problems if left untreated: surrounding teeth shift into the empty space, chewing and speaking become difficult, your bite alignment changes, the jaw loses bone, and remaining teeth face a higher risk of decay and gum disease. A dental bridge helps prevent these issues while restoring function and aesthetics.

Your options

Types of
Dental Bridges.

Our clinic in Bangkok offers several types of dental bridges to suit different needs.

Traditional dental bridge Bangkok01

Traditional Bridges

The most common type of bridge. A pontic (false tooth) is held in place by dental crowns cemented onto the natural teeth on either side of the gap. The anchor teeth are prepared, impressions are taken, and a temporary bridge protects them while the permanent one is made.

  • One or more missing teeth with healthy teeth on both sides
  • Back teeth (molars and premolars)
  • Patients who want a durable, long-lasting solution
02

Cantilever Bridges

Used when there are adjacent teeth on only one side of the missing tooth. The pontic is anchored to one or more teeth on a single side. Because this places more stress on the anchor tooth, cantilever bridges are typically used for front teeth rather than molars.

  • Missing teeth with healthy teeth on only one side
  • Front teeth where chewing forces are lighter
  • Situations where a traditional bridge isn't possible

Resin-bonded

Maryland Bridges

A Maryland bridge uses metal or porcelain wings on each side of the pontic that bond to the back of existing teeth, requiring minimal preparation. They are not as strong as traditional bridges and may not suit back teeth or areas with high bite pressure.

  • Front teeth replacement
  • Patients who want to preserve natural tooth structure
  • Younger patients whose teeth are still developing
04

Implant-Supported Bridges

When multiple teeth are missing in a row, dental implants can support a bridge instead of natural teeth, eliminating the need to prepare healthy teeth. Implants are placed in the jawbone and, after 3-6 months of healing, the bridge is attached. This option requires adequate bone density.

  • Three or more missing teeth in a row
  • Patients who want to preserve their natural teeth
  • Those seeking maximum stability and longevity
The journey

The Bridge
Procedure.

Getting a dental bridge at our Bangkok clinic typically requires 2-3 visits over 7-10 days.

1

Consultation & Tooth Preparation

Your dentist examines your teeth and gums, takes X-rays, and discusses your options. The anchor teeth are prepared by removing a thin layer of enamel, impressions are taken and sent to our lab, and a temporary bridge is placed to protect your teeth.

2

Bridge Fitting & Adjustments

Once your permanent bridge is ready (usually 5-7 days), you return to have it fitted. Your dentist checks the fit, color, and bite alignment, making adjustments as needed for comfort and proper function.

3

Final Cementation

In some cases you may wear the bridge temporarily to test it before final cementation. Once everything is perfect, the bridge is permanently cemented in place and your bite is checked one final time.

Aftercare

Caring For
Your Bridge.

With good oral hygiene and proper care, your dental bridge can last 10-15 years or longer.

  • Brush twice daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush, paying special attention to where the bridge meets your gums.
  • Use a floss threader or interdental brush to clean under the pontic where regular floss can't reach.
  • Avoid hard foods like ice and hard candy; cut hard foods into smaller pieces and chew with your back teeth.
  • Visit your dentist regularly for check-ups and professional cleaning.
  • If you grind your teeth at night, wear a night guard to protect your bridge and natural teeth.

An E-max bridge is about 16,000 THB per unit (around 48,000 THB for a standard 3-unit bridge) and a zirconia bridge about 17,500 THB per unit (around 52,500 THB for 3 units), all-inclusive. You receive a fixed written quote after your assessment.

A standard bridge usually takes 2 visits over about 7 to 10 days: one to prepare the teeth and fit a temporary, and one to bond the final bridge once it is made in our lab.

With good oral hygiene a bridge typically lasts 10 to 15 years or longer. Cleaning under the pontic with a floss threader or interdental brush makes a real difference to its lifespan.

A bridge is quicker and uses the neighbouring teeth for support, while an implant replaces the tooth on its own and preserves the jawbone, so it often lasts longer. Your dentist helps you weigh both for your case and budget.
