Braces Cost in Thailand: Metal, Ceramic and What's Included

If you are weighing up orthodontic treatment abroad, the first question is almost always the same: what will braces actually cost in Thailand, and what do you get for that price? Here is a clear, honest answer based on real Bangkok pricing.

Below we break down the cost by braces type, explain exactly what is included, and give you an honest view of what braces as a dental-tourism treatment really involve. For the full clinical picture, see our main guide to dental braces in Bangkok.

How much do braces cost in Thailand?

Most international patients quote braces in Thailand somewhere between ฿35,000 and ฿65,000 for a complete course, depending on the type you choose and how complex your case is. Compared with prices back home, that usually works out to savings of 50 to 70 percent.

Here are our real starting prices in Bangkok:

Braces typePrice from (THB)Price from (USD approx.)Typical treatment time
Metal bracesFrom ฿35,000About $1,03012 to 24 months
Ceramic (clear) bracesFrom ฿50,000About $1,47512 to 24 months

A quick word on the figures you will see elsewhere. Some sites quote much higher numbers for systems such as self-ligating or lingual braces. Those are different products, and our clinic focuses on the two options most patients actually need: standard metal braces and tooth-coloured ceramic braces. If you are still deciding between systems, our guide to the main types of braces breaks down how each one looks, costs and performs. Both are proven, both are placed by our orthodontists, and both come at the prices above.

What does the price actually include?

This is where a lot of "from $X" headlines fall apart, so we want to be specific. When you start treatment with us, your quoted price covers the whole journey rather than a string of separate charges:

  • The initial assessment with X-rays, photos and impressions so your orthodontist can plan the case.
  • Fitting the brackets and the first archwire.
  • Your monthly adjustment appointments throughout treatment, where the wire is tightened and bands are changed.
  • Removal of the braces at the end.
  • A retainer to hold your new alignment in place.

In other words, the adjustments and the retainer are not surprise add-ons. We also provide a written one-year warranty covering bracket breakage under normal use. The main thing that changes the final total is how long your teeth take to move, since a longer or more complex case means more adjustment visits, which we cover in our guide to how long braces take.

A few things sit outside the standard braces price and are worth knowing about in advance. If your teeth need cleaning or a filling before brackets go on, that groundwork is quoted separately. The same goes for any treatment a tooth might need before it can be straightened. Our clinic does not carry out root canal work, so if an orthodontist spots a tooth that needs it, we will flag it and point you to a provider for that step before braces begin. None of this is hidden; you will see it on your plan after the assessment.

Metal or ceramic braces: which is right for you?

The price gap between the two comes down to the brackets themselves and how visible you want your treatment to be.

Metal braces remain the most popular choice because they handle every kind of case and cost the least. Ceramic braces do the same job with brackets that are far less noticeable, which is why adults often pay the difference. One small trade-off with ceramic: the brackets are slightly larger and need a little more care to keep clean, but the result through treatment is far more discreet. If you would rather skip fixed brackets altogether, removable trays are worth a look, and we cover that fully on our clear aligners in Bangkok page, with a full side-by-side in our guide on clear aligners versus braces. There is also a useful head-to-head in our guide comparing Damon braces and Invisalign.

Will braces hurt, and how long until I see results?

Fitting the braces is painless and takes one to two hours. It is normal to feel some tenderness for a few days after the brackets go on and after each adjustment, as your teeth start to move. Over-the-counter pain relief and soft foods handle this comfortably, and the soreness eases as you adjust. Most patients notice visible changes within the first few months, though the full result and the all-important retainer phase come at the end of the 12 to 24 month timeline.

How braces in Thailand compare on price

The reason braces draw so many international patients is straightforward value. Here is how our Bangkok pricing lines up against typical costs back home.

CountryMetal bracesCeramic bracesSavings
Thailand฿35,000 to ฿50,000฿50,000 to ฿65,000Baseline
USA$3,000 to $7,000$4,000 to $8,000Up to 70%
AustraliaA$5,000 to A$9,000A$6,000 to A$10,000Up to 70%
United Kingdom£2,000 to £5,000£3,000 to £6,000Up to 65%
Singapore$3,500 to $6,000$4,500 to $7,000Up to 60%

Even after you factor in flights and accommodation, the gap is wide enough that many patients still come out well ahead. A full course of metal braces at home can cost more than four times what you would pay in Bangkok, and ceramic braces follow the same pattern. For a treatment that runs into the thousands back home, those savings are not trivial.

The honest part of that maths, though, depends entirely on how you handle the treatment timeline. Braces are not a one-trip purchase, so the right way to compare the value is to think about the total cost of finishing the treatment properly, including any travel for adjustments, rather than the headline price alone. That is the next thing to understand.

The honest part: braces are a long, partly local commitment

This is where braces differ from most popular dental-tourism treatments. A set of veneers or a crown can often be completed in one or two trips over a couple of weeks. Braces cannot. They work by moving your teeth gradually, and that needs an adjustment roughly every four to six weeks for a year or more. Skipping those visits stalls your progress and can drag the whole treatment out.

So before you book anything, be realistic about which of these fits your life:

  • Long stay. If you are spending many months or living in Thailand for a stretch, you can have the whole treatment with us start to finish. This is the simplest path.
  • Shared care. A common arrangement for visitors: your braces are fitted here, and a local orthodontist back home handles the routine monthly adjustments, with you returning for key stages or removal. This needs a willing local provider, so confirm that before you commit. Our companion guide on getting braces in Thailand as a foreigner walks through how shared care works in practice.

There is no shame in concluding that braces are better done locally if you cannot manage the visits. We would rather tell you that up front than have you start a treatment you cannot finish on schedule.

Is it still worth coming to Thailand for braces?

For the right patient, yes. If you are already going to be in Bangkok for an extended period, the savings are real and the standard of care is high, with qualified orthodontists, quality brackets and a written warranty. If you are a short-term visitor, the value depends almost entirely on whether you can line up shared care at home. To see how braces fit into the bigger picture of treatment abroad, our overview of dental tourism in Thailand covers planning, costs and what to expect.

The smartest first step is a consultation. Once an orthodontist sees your case, you will get a firm price, a realistic timeline and a clear plan for managing your visits, so you can decide with the full picture in front of you.
